Vipers SC 2-2 Mbarara City

Fahad Bayo made it five goals in four games as his double salvaged a point for Vipers SC at home against Mbarara City in the match day five of this season’s StarTimes Uganda premier league.

Coming off a 3-2 loss at home against Express in the last game, Mbarara City Coach Brian Senyondo badly wanted a good result for redemption while Vipers was aiming at making it three in as many to keep pace on table leaders.

On a chilly afternoon, Bayo, who joined the Venoms this season from Zambia’s Buildcon, scored five minutes after an hour mark to cancel out Ibrahim Orit’s earlier opener.

Orit had given the visitors a deserved lead in the 25th minute as he headed home a Paul Mucureezi corner.

Bayo later completed his brace to give the hosts lead –heading home an Allan Kayiwa cross from the right in the 80th minute.

This was Bayo’s third premier league goal of the season and second brace at Vipers to make it five in all competitions with three assists.

With seven minutes on time, Mbarara City leveled matters through inspiration captain Hilary Mukundane, who finished off a head-pass from substitute Brian Aheebwa.

Mbarara City made three changes from the team that started against Express while Vipers head coach Edward Golola, who returned to bench after missing Tooro United game due to illness, made five changes.

Rashid Toha earned his debut for Vipers since joining from Onduparaka while Derrick Ochan replaced sick Fabien Mutombola in goal for the former’s first game this season.

Aziz Kayondo replaced suspended Farouk Musisi at the left back who got red carded against Tooro United. Siraje Sentamu returned to the midfield for Ibrahim Tembo while teenager Denis Mwemezi was handed his first start of the season ahead of last season’s club top scorer Dan Sseunkuma, who later replaced Mwemezi in second half.

Abraham Ndugwa and Brian Nkubi dropped to the bench ans Allan Kayiwa and Tito Okello earned starts.

Although Mbarara City was the better side; it was a point won for the Ankole Lions and two points lost for the Venoms. Mbarara City has never beaten Vipers in a competitive game but put two goals past the three-time champions for the first time.

The two sides played to a 1-1 draw in the corresponding fixture last season before settling for a barren draw in Mbarara. Vipers remained 5th on log with 7 points in 3 games while Mbarara City are 10th with 5 points.

Maroons win at home

Elsewhere, Ibrahim Kiyemba’s own goal was enough to hand BUL FC a 1-0 away win at Wakiso Giants to make amends from the 3-0 painful loss to rivals Busoga United in the Eastern derby. Maroons were 3-2 home winners at Bright Stars with goals from Abraham Tusubira, Agau Rashid and Steven Mukwala while Augustine Kacancu and Sula Ssebunza scored for the visitors. Onduparaka were 1-0 away winners at Busoga United –thanks to Rajab Kakooza’s 44th minute goal. SC Villa lead the table with 10 points in five games.

Fixture adjustment

Meanwhile, Meanwhile, Kyetume home game against Proline as well as KCCA FC’s home fixture against URA were rescheduled to a later date due to Uganda Cranes CHAN team preparations. Both KCCA and Proline have three (or more) players summoned to the team, according to Uganda premier league CEO Bernard Bainamani.
