Betway Power put up a remarkable show enroute their 74-35 win over JKL Dolphins in game one of their quarterfinal series on Saturday night.
The five-time champions cruised to a 27-08 lead after the first quarter with guards Amin Mkosa and Syrus Kiviiri doing most of the damage.
JKL struggled to get going offensively whilst shipping in and went into the halftime break trailing by 20 points despite holding Power to only 9 points in the second quarter.
Power scored 38 against JKL’s 19 in the second half to take game one of the 3-game series and put one foot in the semifinals.
With UAP player of the match performance, Kiviiri and Mkosa led Power with 15 points apiece while big man Philip Ameny added 11 points and 9 rebounds to announce his return from suspension.
Ivan Lumanyika and Brian Namake scored 12 and 10 points in JKL’s losing effort. The two sides will face off in game two Wednesday next week.
Meanwhile the Tusker Lite national basketball league returns this Sunday with four fixtures on card at the YMCA courts, Wandegeya.
Men defending champions City Oilers start their title defence in playoffs against tricky KCCA men in the second game of the day as they seek their seventh straight record title.
The female champions JKL were too good for Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) Ravens. Forward Hope Akello registered 17 points and 9 rebounds to lead JKL Lady Dolphins to a 72-47 victory.
The defending champions started well and lead 36-27 at halftime before adding another 36 points in the second half to win 72-47 and get the advantage in the series.
Ritah Imanishimwe contributed 15 points and 5 rebounds while Evelyn Nakiyingi and Brenda Nakitende added 10 apiece for JKL.
Sharon Kirabo and Vicky Akello had 15 and 10 points respectively in UMU’s losing effort.
