Rounders Cricket Club made a commanding start in the Boundary Banters T20 tournament with a clean sweep over Centurion CC in a double-header at Entebbe Cricket Ground on Saturday, registering victories of 25 and 28 runs in the morning and afternoon fixtures respectively.
After winning the toss in the opening match and electing to bat, Rounders recovered from early setbacks to post 120/4 in 15 overs, thanks largely to a composed unbeaten 53 from Ronald Magezi, who anchored the innings through the middle phase.
Yasin Ngobi Hussen provided the late impetus with an aggressive 42 not out off just 24 balls, ensuring Rounders finished strongly despite losing wickets early. In response, Centurion CC showed brief promise but struggled to maintain the required scoring rate, with Conrad Lubwama top-scoring with 34 and Phillip Arinaitwe contributing 17, but the innings lacked consistency.
Rounders’ bowlers maintained control throughout, with Narinder Singh and Yasin Ngobi picking up two wickets each to restrict Centurion to 95/7 and secure a comfortable 25-run win, while Hussen’s all-round performance earned him the Player of the Match award.
The afternoon encounter followed a similar script as Rounders once again asserted their dominance after choosing to bat first, posting an imposing 153/5 in 20 overs.
Paul Mulongo led the charge with a fluent 46, while Zulu Walaza anchored the innings with a steady 36 before retiring not out, and Eddie Agaba added late acceleration with a quickfire 23 off 10 balls to push the total beyond 150. Centurion’s reply was anchored by Brian Mark Masaba, who produced a fighting 52, but a lack of partnerships and early wickets left the chase faltering.
Rushik Kanji Ghodadara proved decisive with the ball, claiming four wickets, while Emmanuel Sebowa added three to dismantle Centurion’s batting order as they were bowled out for 125 in 19 overs, sealing a 28-run victory for Rounders and completing a dominant opening day performance in the tournament.
