Uganda motocross team captain Maxim Van Pee believes a modified Victoria race track, Garuga will be exciting to race on for both riders and fans.
Maxim, who led team Uganda to victory against Kenya in the first round of the East African championship last weekend in Busiika, is also impressed by the level of Ugandan riders’ performance.
The East African championship also doubled as the third round of the national championship.
“There is very much improvement in the competition and performance by Ugandan riders especially in the lower classes and that shows gradual growth of the sport in the country. In most cases, a modified track is very exciting to race on as it comes with new challenges for riders to learn,” noted Maxim on Thursday at UOC offices in Lugogo during the launch of the 4th round of the national motocross championship due May 12 at Victoria race track, Garuga.
According to speedway motor sports club president Umar Mayanja, the bikes will be on from morning till 3pm then buggy competition starts till 5pm.
“We are going to have better organisation as we prepare to host the continental championship next year,” noted Mayanja.
Arthur Blick, a record national motocross champion, also a member of Speedway motor sports club said that there will be modifications in the take-offs and landing, corners, jumps among others.
“Not so much will be modified but a few things will change at the track to give our riders new experience that will help them at the regional and international competition level,” noted Blick, who predicted an exciting 4th round outing.
Blick said that local motor sport governing body FMU okayed buggy competition and this will help riders who want to join rallying to start off safely -especially those below age (18) allowed to take part in rallying.
