Tokyo 2020 Olympic qualifier

Uganda 0-1 Ethiopia (Agg: 4-2)

Uganda Crested Cranes head coach Faridah Bulega admitted that Ethiopia was a better side after the visitors beat her side 1-0 on Saturday at the StarTimes stadium, Lugogo in the return leg of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic qualifiers.

Loza Abera scored the only goal of the game in the 68th minute as the dominant Ethiopia completed a double over Uganda after a 32- victory in Addis Ababa in the first leg. It was the third contest between the two sides with Ethiopia winning twice and losing the other. “Ethiopia are more experienced than us and they were the better side. We tried to play safe on visit to Ethiopia but conceded two, and we thought we would get a 1-0 and progress but the opponents were better,” noted Bulega after the disappointing result. She said that as the technical team, many positives were picked from the campaign for use in future. “We wanted to have Sandra (Nabweteme) start from the bench and study the game so as to be a game changer, but she could not,” added Bulega when asked why the US-based forward started on the bench. The Southwestern Oklahoma State University striker missed a penalty in Addis Ababa as Uganda lost (3-2) in the first leg. Ethiopia will now face Cameroon at the last qualifier (Africa) stage.
