Quarter Finals, Second Leg

Friday, 3pm

Busitema vs UCU, Busitema

Busitema University Coach Namugenyi Dorothy has vowed to propel Uganda Christian University (UCU) quarter final jinx when the two meet in the first leg of their Pepsi University Football League quarter final this Friday at Busitema.

Although Busitema have never beaten UCU, and lost both at home and away at the group stage last season, Namugenyi is optimistic that her side will emerge winners this Friday at home.

“UCU are a good team and have been playing well. But we are also good and have greatly improved. This year, we have made it to the quarter finals. I am confident that at home, we shall have a good win which will take us to the semi-finals,” said Namugenyi, who has led Busitema at the quarter finals for the second time after 2015 in her first year in charge.

Namusisi, who, is the only female coach in the University league, is also an active player with Kampala Queens women football club.

She will miss her defender Cyrus Kibande who became ineligible after crossing to Premier league side Express FC. UCU has for the last four consecutive seasons qualified to the quarter final stage of the competition; only to be knocked out twice by Uganda Martyrs University (2017, 2016), Kampala University (2018) and Kampala International University (2015).

This time however, they head into the quarter final clash as favorites to end the jinx. UCU coach Kintu Mwera said that his side is well prepared for the game.

Action between Busitema University and Kyambogo University on Wednesday

“The team is well prepared for Busitema. We are not undermining our opponents since we believe all teams at this stage are on merit, but we are confident of getting a win,” Kintu said.

Bugema shocks holders Kyambogo

Meanwhile, Kasajja Lucky missed a penalty but scored in the 33rd and 40th minute as Bugema University pulled off a shocking 2-0 win over defending champions Kyambogo University on Wednesday in the their quarter final, first leg in Bombo. Kyambogo had beaten Bugema at last year’s semi finals both home and away en route to finals for their first ever title.
