The 10th ICPAU Junior woodbal championship will attract 744 participants this Saturday at the Buziga Islamic school. The Institute of public accountants of Uganda (ICPAU) injected Shs13m in this year’s one-day championship that will see an increase of participants from 500 last year.

26 secondary schools and 36 primary schools qualified for the final tournament from national qualifiers and will play in both Singles and team events.

Speaking while handing over the sponsorship to Uganda woodball federation (UWBF) Secretary Ganeral Joseph Collins Ssemanda on Wednesday at ICPAU offices in Ntinda, Manager Stakeholder Engagement Godfrey Neema said that ICPAU is dedicated to develop talent in the teenagers.

“ICPAU is privileged to associate with the woodball federation to develop the game from the grassroots and we shall remain committed,” noted Neema.

UWBF’s Ssemanda expressed gratitude towards ICPAU’s sponsorship, saying that the institution has remained a strong pillar as far as woodball growth in the country is concerned. Last year, during the 8th edition as Uganda celebrated 10 years of woodball in the country at Namboole stadium, Nalinya Lwantale won the Boys category while Green Acres won in the Girls.

In the secondary category, Kings College-Buddo were the Boys winners whilst Luzira SS came on top in Girls. Kato Shanion of St Kizito primary school-Bugolobi and Kevin Asimo of Namulonge Community are the male and female Singles reigning champions respectively in the primary category while Simon Ssebuuma of Kings College, Buddo and Amina Nalujja of Airforce SS are the reigning secondary schools category male and female Singles champions respectively.

There will be an inspiring speech from Denise Nanjeru, a former ICPAU Junior’s Championship player who is currently the national (senior) most valuable player in Uganda, as a motivator to the participants during this year’s event. Winners will be given trophies, medals and certificates.
