CAF Confident East Africa Will Deliver Successful AFCON 2027 Tournament
The Acting General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Samson Adamu, has expressed confidence in the successful delivery of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027.
Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania will jointly host Africa’s biggest football tournament from June 19 to July 18, 2027, marking a historic moment for the East African region.
Speaking at the climax of a two-day AFCON 2027 workshop held at Mistel Hotel in Kampala on Thursday, Adamu said CAF is optimistic about the region’s readiness to stage a memorable tournament.
“We are very confident of what we can deliver and it’s going to be a very successful competition,” said Adamu.
He described the 2027 edition as unique because of its joint hosting arrangement, noting that it offers a rare chance to present the tournament in a new light while showcasing the diversity and beauty of East Africa to the world.
“It’s three countries that are hosting this competition. It presents a very unique opportunity for us to be able to show AFCON in a completely different light and three really amazing countries, unique in their own sense,” he said.
Adamu also revealed that a closed-door meeting had been held among the key stakeholders to align on priorities, execution plans, and the work that still needs to be done ahead of the tournament.
He thanked Uganda for hosting the workshop, which brought together various CAF departments and Local Organising Committees for detailed sessions aimed at addressing operational requirements and ensuring readiness across all fronts.
The two-day workshop was attended by key stakeholders from the three host nations—Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda—including Ministers of Sports, Local Organising Committee leaders and football federation presidents, all focused on assessing and aligning preparations for the continental showpiece.
Moses Hassim Magogo, the President of the Federation of Uganda Football Associations, said the tournament will leave a lasting impact on football in the region.
“It is a great moment that AFCON will be coming to East Africa and a lot of work is being done so that it is successful,” Magogo said.
“Football is not going to be the same in this region after this tournament,” he added.
AFCON 2027 will be the first time the prestigious tournament is jointly hosted by the three East African nations, a move expected to boost sports infrastructure, tourism, and regional integration while elevating the profile of football across the region.
