The President of the Confederation of African Football, Patrice Motsepe, is set to visit Senegal this today, Wednesday, 8 April 2026 for talks with President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and officials from the Fédération Sénégalaise de Football.
The visit comes amid escalating tensions following CAF’s decision to strip Senegal of the 2025 AFCON title after their final win over Morocco was later ruled a forfeiture due to a player walk-off during the match. Senegal has rejected the ruling and launched an appeal, turning the matter into a major dispute between the federation and CAF.
In a bold act of defiance, Senegal recently paraded their 2025 AFCON trophy at the Stade de France on 28 March 2026. Led by Kalidou Koulibaly, players held a victory lap before a friendly against Peru, wearing jerseys emblazoned with two stars to celebrate their contested win, despite being ordered by CAF to return the trophy.
