Uganda men’s national cricket team, Cricket Cranes are still winless in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup (CWC) Challenge League B tournament after they lost by six wickets against Hong Kong on Monday at the Kyambogo University Oval.
This is Uganda’s second straight loss in the tournament after they were beaten by Jersey in the opener on Friday last week at Lugogo Cricket Oval.
On Monday, Uganda who won the toss an elected to bat to first had false innings after they returned 94 runs and were all out at just 33/50 overs.
After Uganda’s disappointing display, Hong Kong were surely favorites to win the game even before their innings for they had less than 100 to chase with loads of balls at their disposable.
The visitors posted 96 runs for the fall of 4 wickets in only 21.5/50 overs and won the tie by six wickets.
The win implies that Uganda drop from the top of the table where they had been since 2019 and are now second with nine points while Hong Kong on the other side have gone atop with 11 points.
At Kyambogo, Ronak Patel led Uganda in their innings managing 35 runs off 60 balls, including four 4s. Skipper Brian Masaba followed with 19 runs from 36 balls, he had three 4s.
Uganda dropped wickets at a fast rate with three players getting out without managing a single run whilst six batsmen couldn’t make double figures.
Hong Kong pair of Nizakat Khan and Adit Gorawara posted impressive runs of 24 runs off 25 balls and 22 runs off 24 balls respectively as Uganda’s bowler Henry Ssenyondo struggled to pick a wicket.
Kinchit Shah and Aizat Khan capped Hong Kong’s innings posting 15 and 5 runs respectively as their side eased past the host team.
Uganda will seek to make amends today, Tuesday 21st June when they entertain bottom placed and winless Bermuda at Lugogo oval. The latter will face Hong Kong the next day.
However, the tournament is a pathway to the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup in India but most importantly a voyage that could end with Uganda securing the much-vaunted One-Day International (ODI) status.
