Uganda Maintains Perfect Record with Convincing Win Over Kenya in POA T20 Series
Entebbe, Uganda | July 21, 2025 – Uganda’s national cricket team, the Cricket Cranes, extended their unbeaten streak in the ongoing Pearl of Africa T20 Series with a commanding 28-run victory over regional rivals Kenya at the Entebbe Oval on Monday.
Batting first after losing the toss, Uganda posted a competitive 157/5 in 20 overs, thanks to a steady third-wicket partnership between Raghav Dhawan (41 off 39) and Robinson Obuya (40 off 48). Their 84-run stand lifted Uganda from a shaky 22/2 to a solid 100/3 before late fireworks from captain Juma Miyaji (19 off 8) and Dinesh Nakrani (24* off 14) added valuable runs in the death overs.
Kenya’s chase faltered early after veteran spinner Frank Nsubuga, 44, rolled back the years with a game-changing spell of 3 for 10 in 3 overs. Nsubuga dismissed captain Dhiren Gondaria (4) and Tanzeel Sheikh (0) in successive deliveries, rocking the visitors to 12/3 inside the powerplay.
Former captain Rakep Patel fought back with a gritty 58 off 49 balls, supported briefly by Sachin Gill (30 off 21), but Uganda’s bowling unit maintained tight lines and pressure throughout. Fast bowler Cosmas Kyewuta struck at key moments in his second spell, removing Patel, Gill, and Jasraj Kundi to end with impressive figures of 3/21.
Frank Nsubuga was deservedly named Player of the Match for his early breakthroughs that derailed Kenya’s innings.
Head coach Jackson Ogwang lauded his side’s all-round performance. “The batsmen dug deep to rebuild after a slow start, and the bowlers executed our plans perfectly,” Ogwang remarked.
With this win, Uganda stays unbeaten alongside Namibia A and builds crucial momentum ahead of Tuesday’s fixture against Nigeria. The Pearl of Africa Series serves as a vital build-up to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier in Zimbabwe, where Uganda is eyeing a second consecutive World Cup appearance in 2026.
