KCCA FC face a defining moment in their season this Saturday as they make a crucial trip to Kyamate Stadium in Ntungamo to take on FUFA Big League side Kaaro Karungi FC in the quarter-finals of the Stanbic Uganda Cup.
For a club of KCCA FC’s stature—13-time league champions and 10-time Uganda Cup winners—this is more than just a fixture. With a forgettable league campaign behind them and no other silverware in sight, the Uganda Cup now represents the Cityzens’ last shot at salvaging pride and purpose this season.
While KCCA FC boasts a storied past, including multiple regional and domestic titles, they must now outwork a spirited Kaaro Karungi side that, although relatively unknown, has already shocked top-tier UPDF FC in the previous round. Kaaro currently sit 7th in the FUFA Big League, but the cup has a habit of turning minnows into giants—especially when they play at home.
KCCA’s coach Jackson Magera Kaddu knows exactly what’s at stake:
“We know this is our only chance at silverware. The players are ready. The past is behind us. We’ve come to win.”
Kaddu also acknowledged the painful memories from a previous trip to Kyamate Stadium 10 years ago—an indirect reminder that this isn’t a walk in the park.
KCCA’s squad will miss several key players, including Sadat Anaku (quadriceps), Isa Mubiru (illness), Filbert Obenchan (rib injury), and Yian Gatbel (suspension). Young goalie Humphrey Oyirwoth also misses out due to a training injury. However, the likes of Usama Arafat, Rogers Mato, and former Kaaro Karungi player Emmanuel Anyama are fit and raring to go.
