Dr. Kato Sebbaale has emerged the winner of the first quarter of the I&M Bank Serena 63 Golf Series. This was confirmed during the first quarterly tournament outing held on Saturday, 20 June 2026, at the Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa, Kigo.

Sebbaale managed to come atop a huge field of golfers to take the top spot. He carded a total score of 242 from his six best rounds, earning himself a Callaway Quantum driver.

“I feel great! This is a great field of players and emerging winner is such a great feeling,” Sebbaale, who played a total of 15 rounds in the first quarter, added that the format of the competition gives a grace period for golfers to make amends.

Behind Sebbaale is defending champion David Plendelreith, with 232 points. Lake Victoria Serena Captain- Jimmy Mugerwa, finished joint third with Gift Shoko with 227 points, while former Minister- Hon. John Byabagambi is in fifth place, with 225 points.

According to Lake Victoria Serena Golf Director- Theo Van Rooyen, a total of 479 rounds were played, by close to 100 golfers in the regular season of the first quarter. More rounds are anticipated to be played in the next quarters as there are some golfers yet to hit the fairway.

Speaking on behalf of the CEO, Robin Bairstow, I&M Bank Chief Financial Officer- Timothy Musiime, re-emphasized that the bank remains committed to creating value beyond traditional banking.

“Through partnerships like this, we are able to connect with our clients in meaningful ways that align with their lifestyles and interests.

More importantly, golf in Uganda continues to grow steadily, with increasing participation across clubs, corporate tournaments, and junior programmes. The I&M Bank Serena 63 Golf Series is proud to be part of this growth,” he noted.

Meanwhile, Musiime played in the subsidiary category, and was among the podium finishers, in a runner-up position, with 43 points.

The subsidiary event was won by Alex Guma, after posting 44 points. Three players tied on 40 points; Nobuyoshi Kida, Eric Miller and Isaac Nsereko.

For the side bets, Katy Kabenge claimed the Nearest to the Pin prize in the ladies’ category, while Jasi Rommel won the men’s. Nerima Shaminah emerged as the Longest Drive winner in the ladies’ category, while Brian Omeda claimed the same in the men’s division.

The podium finishers all received prizes ranging from golf apparel, to other offerings from the event sponsors.

According to I&M Bank Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications- Annette Nakiyaga, it was encouraging that many players managed to complete more than 10 rounds by the first quarter, a move, she says, signals that many participants are already well on their way to qualify for the overall season prizes.

Podium finishers share a photo moment with the series stakeholders after the prize-giving ceremony.

“For I&M Bank, this level of engagement is both humbling and motivating. It gives us more confidence to continue our partnership with the series, and even find ways to make the experience even more rewarding for participants,” Nakiyagasaid.

The second quarterly tournament of the I&M Bank Serena 63 Series, backed by Kenya Airways and Lake Victoria Serena, will return on September 12 for the second quarterly tournament.
