In a week filled with cricket fever, Uganda’s cricket scene is buzzing with excitement as various teams and players gear up for a series of thrilling events. From youth triumphs to national team preparations and intense local league matches, there’s plenty to look forward to in the world of Ugandan cricket.

Youth Excellence:
The spotlight shines brightly on the talented young cricketers of Uganda as the Baby Cricket Cranes clinched victory in the Easter Youth 50 Over Series. Displaying exceptional skill and determination, the team secured a memorable win against Kenya U-19 in the final, emerging victorious by a margin of 47 runs. With eyes set on the U-19 World Cup Qualifiers, this triumph marks a promising start for Uganda’s rising cricket stars.

National Team Focus:
Meanwhile, the senior national team, the Cricket Cranes, has resumed training under the guidance of interim coach Jackson Ogwang. With rigorous sessions held in Lugogo and Entebbe, the team is honing their skills and tactics in preparation for upcoming challenges. Their dedication and hard work reflect a strong determination to excel on the international stage.

Victoria Pearls Preparation:
On another front, the Victoria Pearls are diligently preparing for the T20 Globals World Cup Qualifiers, scheduled from April 19th to May 2nd in Abu Dhabi. As anticipation builds, the final 15 players will be named on April 5th, intensifying the excitement among fans and players alike. With aspirations of making a mark on the global stage, the team is leaving no stone unturned in their quest for success.

Local League Thrills:
The action isn’t confined to international and youth levels, as local league matches promise intense competition and excitement. With T20 premiership and championship matches resuming, teams are locked in fierce battles as they vie for qualification from Div 2 to the top flight. Each match day brings its own drama and suspense, with promotion at stake for the top two sides at the end of Div 2.

Development Initiatives:
In addition to competitive matches, development initiatives are in full swing across various districts of Uganda. The annual Mini Cricket Festival is set to kick off in Soroti, Lugazi, Masindi, Mbarara, Mbale, Kamuli, Ndejje, Mukono, and Lira. This grassroots event aims to nurture young talent and foster a love for the sport at the grassroots level, laying the foundation for future success.

Girls Cricket Week Qualifiers:
Highlighting the inclusivity and diversity of cricket in Uganda, the Girls Schools Cricket Week Qualifiers for the Northern Region are set to take place at St. Joseph Layibi College. With six schools competing for a chance to shine on the big stage, the tournament promises thrilling matches and fierce competition. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinals, with dreams of securing a spot in the main event in May.
