Uganda Premier League side Express FC have stepped up their effort to renovate their backyard, Wankulukuku Stadium ahead of the 2020/2021 football season which is anticipated to kick off in October.

The renovation drive at the stadium is mainly aimed at improving on the facility’s drainage system, especially near the technical area. The process also involves maintaining the playing surface.

Express FC CEO Isaac Mwesigwa narrates that giving some parts of the facility a new look is inevitable as the team attempts to put up an overall new look in various aspects ahead of the new season.

“When I joined the club, we agreed with the board and stadium management that there are basic things we needed to have in place around the playing turf and as time goes by you will notice the changes. I would like to thank the club board for the support,” Mwesigwa told the club website.

Wankulukuku stadium has over the years struggled with maintaining the playing surface whenever it rains heavily. However, with the renovations taking shape the management hopes that things will improve. The club has also followed the FUFA club licensing directives of having a separate training ground for the players.

“We are also setting up our training ground just beside the stadium to conform to FUFA licensing standards. As a club, we want to closely monitor proceedings from training to match day from the same facility,” Mwesigwa added.

Express, just like other teams are preparing for the new football season anticipated to tip off in October this year. However, the actual date of return of competitive play is dependant on government permission to do so though the tentative date is 17th.
