Ahead of the new football season (2021/22), Uganda Premier League (UPL) reigning champions Express FC are working hard to ensure that they maintain their ‘top side’ status albeit the current Covid-19 disruptions, caused by a total nation-wide lockdown which has affected the sports sector and the like.

With the contingent calling as well,  Express dugout and relevant technical staff should ensure that the team is in perfect shape when they represent the nation at the CAF Champions League.

Express Head Coach Wasswa Bbosa who is focusing on assembling a competitive squad for the coming season which will see Express FC play continental football for the first time since 2008 has stated that the technical team is doing the necessary adjustments to have a competitive squad for the new campaign.

“The technical team is tirelessly working behind the scenes to have a comepetitive team for next season, that I can confirm,” Bbosa told the club website adding that; “as league champions, we need to make the right decisions of who comes in and who leaves because we have a bumper schedule ahead and so far so good, when the time is right we shall definitely let the world know.”

The players are currently conducting drills personally and virtually with the guidance of the strength and conditioning coach Helen Buteme who Bbosa says is doing a fantastic job to keep the charges fit.

“I am certain you have come across various videos of players training on their different social y platforms. Coach Helen is doing an amazing job and I’m sure by the time the lockdown is lifted (if it is), the players will have made strides,” Bbosa added.

The current lockdown will expire at the stroke of this month and if It’s not extended, Express just like the rest of the teams will be raring to go again.

The Red Eagles will not only play continental football but also feature in the CECAFA Kagame Cup (TBC) and the new Uganda Premier League season.
