FEASSSA games trip motivated Odilo tournament best keeper

Francis Omongot was named the best goal keeper as his Rays of Grace Junior school lifted the inaugural FUFA Odilo primary schools tournament on Wednesday with a 1-0 win over Oasis Annex from Arua in the final at the FUFA technical center, Njeru.

Skipper Leonard Kasanya scored the only goal of the match late in second half to cap his MVP performance at the eight-team tournament.

Omongot, who conceded only two goals, revealed that love to travel to Arusha in Tanzania for the 2019 FEASSSA games was one of the main motivations for his remarkable performance.

“I have never gone there (Arusha) and I worked hard to enable my team finish top to represent the country. I had trust from my teammates and I was also confident had we gone into penalty shoot outs,” noted Omongot, who dedicated his best goal keeper gong to his aunt Betty Aseku in Soroti.

The 13-year old wants to be the next Denis Onyango (Uganda Cranes goal keeper) and believes nothing will stop him from accomplishing his ambition.

“Onyango inspires me a lot and I want to be like him. I want to play at the Uganda Cranes and also KCCA FC,” he noted.

To join Rays of Grace, the youngster came from East View primary school this year. The Odilo tournament champions Rays of Grace and Runners up Oasis Annex will represent the country in the Federation of East African secondary schools games (FEASSSA) due this month in Arusha, Tanzania.

The two schools will partake in the primary category introduced last year and all expenses will be catered for by FUFA.
