FIFA, the world governing body for football, has imposed global bans on several Ugandan players and referees previously suspended by the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) in 2023 due to their involvement in match-fixing activities.
The affected players are Saleh Maganda (formerly of Calvary FC), Franco Oringa (formerly of Northern Gateway), Godfrey Lwesibawa, Yahaya Mahad Kakooza, and Andrew Waiswa (all formerly of Gadaffi FC).
In addition, referees George Nkurunziza and Deogracious Opio, who were also suspended by FUFA, have received extended sanctions from FIFA.
Each implicated player has been handed a five-year ban, while the referees face ten-year bans. These worldwide sanctions, now enforced by FIFA, bar the individuals from all football-related activities and are effective immediately.
FIFA and FUFA have communicated these sanctions to the respective individuals.
