Twenty three referees were on Wednesday handed FIFA badges for the year 2020 at a function presided over by FIFA President Eng Moses Magogo at Jevine hotel, Rubaga. At the same function, these FIFA referees also received their medical cover insurance cards.

Ronnie Kalema Chairman Uganda Football Referees Association (UFRA) and FUFA Referees Standing Committee (FRSC) thanked FUFA for the medical insurance –saying that is one big way of motivating the referees for better performance.

‘In order to fulfill FUFA’s vision of becoming the Number one football Nation in Africa on and off the field, it has been noted that the referees have to be part and partial of project FIFA 2026 World Cup. At the international level, Uganda is competing well as our referees were appointed to officiate at various high profile tournaments. Shamira Nabadda was at FISU Games in Italy, Ssali Mashoud at the AFCON U17 and Okello Dick at U20 AFCON and Junior tournaments. We have for the last one year delivered all competitions with pride and our 2020 program is to support the FIFA Referees attain higher grounds at Africa and the world at large. I thank FUFA for including all the international referees on FUFA Insurance cover program,” noted Kalema.

Starting this year (2020), players who ply their trade in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League are getting medical insurance cover courtesy of FUFA through AAR as service providers.

The insurance caters for injuries to players and compensation for permanent disabilities as a result of injuries. In this arrangement, 400 licensed players will be catered for –with each club presenting 25 players.

This is the same cover that caters for the FIFA badge holding referees, FUFA staff and delegates. Uganda Cranes, FUFA Juniors League and players that take part in the FUFA Drum tournament are insured by the National Insurance Company NIC).
