The Uganda U-17 Women’s National Team, the Teen Cranes, are set for a crucial encounter against Kenya in the first leg of the second round of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup African qualifiers on Friday at FUFA Stadium, Kadiba.
The match, which kicks off at 4:00 PM, presents Uganda with an opportunity to secure a strong home result before the return leg in Nairobi next week. FUFA has announced free entry for fans as the team seeks maximum support in the highly anticipated East African derby.
The Teen Cranes wrapped up their preparations on Thursday with a final training session at Kadiba, focusing on tactical organisation, match sharpness, and team cohesion ahead of the decisive fixture.
Head coach Sheryl Ulanda Botes expressed confidence in her side and believes the players are ready for the challenge.
“We have worked on the key details to put the players in good shape. The atmosphere is positive,” Botes said after training.
The South African tactician acknowledged the rivalry and familiarity between the two teams, noting that Uganda expects a highly competitive contest from their regional neighbours.
“It’s not our first time to play against Kenya, and we know what they are bringing. We know it’s going to be a competitive match, but our aim is to win,” she added.
Uganda advanced to the second round after eliminating Zimbabwe in the previous stage and will now aim to continue their impressive qualification campaign against Kenya.
The winner over the two legs will progress to the next round of the African qualifiers, where they will face either South Africa or Tanzania.
The return leg between Uganda and Kenya is scheduled for Saturday, 30th May 2026 at Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi.
