The SportsOcean can confirm that Fred Kajoba has resigned from his role as Vipers SC head coach.

The development was confirmed on Monday, May 31 just a day before Vipers SC face SC Villa in the Uganda Cup second leg quarter final clash at Bombo Military Barracks Stadium.

Kajoba who joined Vipers midway through the 2019/2020 Uganda Premier League season and ensured they won the title decided to step down after he was asked to choose between his job at Vipers and the goalkeeping role with the Uganda Cranes.

It is understood that he was asked to make the decision by Vipers technical director Charles Masembe after he returned to Kitende following a training session with the Cranes at Lugogo, one that saw him decide to stay with the National team.

“When I went for our afternoon training session at Vipers, Mr. Masembe called me in his office and asked me to choose between Vipers and Uganda,” Kajoba told football256.

“Without thinking twice, I told him I choose Uganda, when Vipers hired me I was working with the Uganda Cranes and I will always choose the Cranes any day over any club job.

“So I have resigned from the job, I have said my good byes to the players and I am leaving the premises now.”

Kajoba was working with Paul Kiwanuka who was his assistant and it is not clear whether the latter will also move on.

Before his resignation, Vipers were third on the Premier League log on 56 points, two points behind log leaders Express and one point behind second placed URA.

They were also in the quarter finals of the Uganda Cup and preparing for the second leg against Villa with whom they had drawn 1-1 at Kitende last week.
