Local basketball governing body Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA) have released their activity calendar for the year 2021.

This year (2020), FUBA didn’t run most of its signature activities notably the national leagues and lower leagues across all divisions after sports activities were halted between March and September due to COVID-19.

Even after open air competitive play was reinstated in September, basketball, just like majority of sports disciplines couldn’t tip-off because of the high cost of running activities in COVID-19 times hence the federation declared 2020 a dead year.

According to the 2021 calendar, the federation will use December 2020 to hold its key meetings as they prepare for a successful 2021 that will see the return of competitive basketball after a one year hiatus.
On 1st January 2021, the local basketball transfer window will be opened but the KIU Basketball Tournament is slated for 29th and 30th at KIU Courts.

Between 8th to 14th February, the JKL Tournament will be held at the JKL courts.
Second window of Afrobasket Qualifiers will happen between 19th and 21st in a yet to be named venue.

On 20th, all local basketball fixtures will be released with the first leg of the leagues tipping off on 26th.

In March, JOVOC Open, All Girls Nabisunsa Invitational and Women’s Day Championship will be held.
In April, the Easter Cup Championship will be held.

The first leg of the leagues is expected to end on 18th of the same month.
In May, the second leg of the leagues will start and will end in June.

The NBA Junior League will also start in May.
In June, boys’ Zone V U16 Afrobasket 2021 Qualifiers will be held in Kampala. The girls’ event will also happen in June though the venue hasn’t been confirmed.

The league playoffs will also start in June with the best of three quarterfinals tipping in Lugogo and YMCA.

In July, Semi-finals (best of five) of the playoffs will be held including the Buganda Cup Tournament but the Junior NBA League will be ending.

The league playoffs is expected to end in August whilst the Afrobasket men’s championship will be happening in Kigali, Rwanda.

The final quarter of the year has little basketball activity with the 3×3 Tour the only event slated for September.

The FUBA Independence Cup which was support to make its debut this year will instead happen next year in October at Lugogo and YMCA court.

The 3×3 Africa Cup will be held between 12th to 14th in Lugogo while the 2020 Awards will happen on 20th.

The FNL (Friday Night Lights) Basketball is back and it will also be held in November.
In December, the AUUS Games is the only activity likely to happen though something might pop-up in the near future.
