The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has announced the renewal of Paul Put’s contract as Head Coach of the Uganda Cranes, extending his tenure until 2028. The decision, revealed in Kampala, underscores FUFA’s commitment to stability and continuity as Uganda gears up to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) under the PAMOJA arrangement.
FUFA Chief Executive Officer Edgar Watson confirmed the agreement, saying the new two-and-a-half-year deal takes immediate effect. He noted that Put will continue overseeing the senior national team, the CHAN team, and the U23 side, maintaining leadership over strategy and player selection. Watson also revealed that Uganda has lined up friendly matches against Chad and Morocco on November 14 and 18, respectively.
FUFA First Vice President Justus Mugisha explained that the renewal was based on performance and alignment with the federation’s technical master plan. He praised Put for leading the Cranes to improved performances, including a strong CHAN run and near qualification for the World Cup. “This was one of the easiest decisions the Executive Committee has made,” Mugisha said, expressing confidence that Put can elevate Uganda to new heights in African football.
Mugisha also extended gratitude to the Government of Uganda, Minister of Education and Sports Hon. Janet Kataaha Museveni, and President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for their continued financial support of the national team.
Coach Put expressed pride in the extension, saying it reflected FUFA’s trust in his vision to build a strong team ahead of AFCON 2027. “I feel very happy and proud because the Federation believes in the project,” he said, thanking fans, players, and media for their support. Put emphasized the importance of unity around the national team, promising to deliver good football and strengthen the sense of family within the Cranes setup.
