FUFA Women Elite League play-offs

Thursday, Lugogo

Kawempe Muslim vs UCU, 2PM

Lady Doves vs Kampala Queens, 4pm

Four clubs will this Thursday battle in the play-offs of the 2018/19 FUFA Women Elite league at the StarTimes stadium, Lugogo.

At free entrance, all the four fixtures will be played at the same venue with holders Kawempe Muslim facing UCU Lady Cardinals in the repeated of 2016/17 final that gave Kawempe their third straight title unbeaten following a 4-0 victory.

Aisha Namukisa of Kampala Queens

Kampala Queens will later battle fierce Lady Doves from Masindi later in another much anticipated clash.

FUFA confirmed the match officials for both fixtures yesterday; with Murungi Diana, Marex Nkumbi and Oliver Nakitto as the referee, first assistant and second assistant referees respective for the opening fixture while Shamirah Nabadda, Jane Mutonyi and Aisha Kiiza will handle the second fixture respectively.

Having lost their coach Peter Ssebulime this month, UCU Lady Cardinals, who were the last to secure a play-off slot, want to go all the way to final and probably win the title for the fallen coach who won them the FUFA Women Cup last season.

For Kawempe, led by Crested Cranes captain Tracy Jones Okiror, it is history in line as they strive to stamp authority with the fifth straight title albeit not looking as favorites this time around.

Lady Doves Coach Oliver Mbekeka wants a Double this season having stormed the final of the FUFA Women Cup after 4-3 win over She Corporates in penalties following a 2-2 draw.

They will face Makerere University in the final on June 8 after Makerere beating Echo High School on 5-0 at the semi final.

Mbekeka, whose side is at the play-offs for the first time, is the assistant to Kampala Queens coach Faridah Bulega at the Crested Cranes and the former came on top 3-0 in this season’s Women Cup round of 16 clash, thanks to a brace from Kenyan forward Mary Kinuthia Wanjiku Nafula and another from Winnie Babirye –formerly at Kampala Queens.

Kampala Queens who finished 4th last season, camped at FUFA technical center, Njeru technical center to train on artificial turf but Mbekeka, whose side ended Kawempe Muslim league unbeaten run with a 1-0 is not bothered.

“It is a good side but we are only minding our game. We have a game plan and we execute it well, we shall be in the final,” noted Mbekeka.
