The Uganda Women’s National Basketball Team, the Gazelles, have officially kicked off their training camp in preparation for the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket. The continental tournament is set to take place from 26th July to 3rd August 2025 in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
Under the guidance of Head Coach Nicholas Natuhereza, the team began non-residential training on Wednesday, 2nd July at the African Bible Institute in Lubowa. The camp features a 13-player squad summoned to fine-tune tactics and build cohesion ahead of the continental showdown.
“We’re focused on trying to get the roster together, fill some pieces, some gaps that were left by some players that are not available like Lydia Babirye, Maxine and Bushira,” said Natuhereza. “We’ve been trying to update the roster from the qualifiers and also have a better team than the one we had at the last AfroBasket. Practice will help us get the players back on the same page and in shape.”
Uganda has been placed in Group C alongside Senegal and Guinea, both tough opponents, making this training phase critical for performance at the group stages.
The technical bench supporting the Gazelles includes assistant coaches Julius Lutwama and Ben Komakech, video analyst Michael D. Segar, physiotherapist Flavia Nakachwa Mugabwa, team doctor Dr. Vicent Etyang, and fitness trainer Abdellatif Badre.
