GM Sugar Cricket Club have been crowned champions of the Uganda Cricket Men’s 50 Overs League Division Two after finishing the season unbeaten. The new team completed their remarkable run with an 86-run win over Mukono Warriors in the final at Entebbe Cricket Oval.
GM Sugar won the toss and chose to bat first. Their total of 190 runs in 44.2 overs was built on a steady team performance. Rahulkumar Patel scored 43, while Hetalkumar added 34 and Bhaveshbhai chipped in with 32. Mukono Warriors bowled well, with Jignesh Vekariya and Hardik Donga doing most of the damage, but they couldn’t stop GM Sugar from putting up a solid total.
In reply, Mukono Warriors were in trouble early. Bhaveshbhai took two quick wickets, including the captain Alpesh Mepani for zero. Kalpesh Jeshani hit a quick 26 from 13 balls, but the rest of the batting lineup struggled. Pramit Harishbhai Patel led the way with the ball, taking 3 wickets for just 10 runs. Hevin and Fenilkumar finished off the innings as Mukono Warriors were bowled out for 104 in 34.4 overs.
GM Sugar won by 86 runs and lifted the Division Two trophy in their very first season.
Unbeaten from start to finish
The team’s road to the title was impressive. They started the season with a 74-run win over Premier CC, followed by a 4-wicket win against Ismaili Community CC. From there, they went on to record big wins:
170-run win over SKLPS CC
118-run win against Mukono Warriors
261-run win over St. John’s SS Mukono
252-run win against Mukono Development
Narrow 2-wicket win over Tornado CC
Comfortable qualifier win over Kutchi Tigers B
They finished the season with 7 league wins, a qualifier win, and the final — all without losing a match.
Standout players
Bhavikkumar Kantilal Patel was the top run scorer in Division Two with 297 runs. Mukono Warriors’ Hardik Donga led the wicket charts with 20 wickets. The Most Valuable Player award went to Harsh Panchal, also of Mukono Warriors, who earned 917 points across the season.
GM Sugar’s first season in Division Two couldn’t have gone better. They showed skill, consistency, and strong teamwork — and now look set to take on bigger challenges in the seasons ahead.
