NEC FC goalkeeper Hannington Ssebwalunyo delivered one of the most remarkable individual months in recent memory to claim the top prize at the April Fortebet Real Stars Sports Monthly Awards, held today, May 5, at Nanjing Restaurant in Kampala.
At 36, Ssebwalunyo proved experience still counts, producing a string of standout performances that saw him keep five clean sheets while also scoring two goals—a rare feat for a goalkeeper. His all-round impact set him apart from fellow nominees Ivan Mayanja of Maroons FC and Frank Ssebuufu of SC Villa, securing him his first-ever Real Stars accolade.
“I thank God for this achievement. It reflects the unity within the team and the constant challenge from my fellow goalkeepers who push me to be better every day,” he said.
Meanwhile, in basketball, Edreene Ekau of Rezlife Stars walked away with the monthly award after an impressive run in which she averaged 20 points per game. Her performances edged out competition from Faheed Baale of City Oilers and Tracy Namugose of KCCA Leopards.

The rugby category saw Alex Aturinda of Pirates emerge best, overcoming Proscovia Mukyala of Thunderbirds and Daniels Otim of Buffaloes to clinch the honour.
The awards, organised by the Real Stars Sports Agency in partnership with Fortebet and Jude Colour Solutions, continue to shine a spotlight on Uganda’s top-performing athletes across multiple disciplines.
