Allan Kayiwa and Frank ‘Zaga’ Tumwesigye scored in the opening half as Vipers SC beat BUL FC 2-1 on Tuesday at the St Mary’s stadium, Kitende to ascend to the summit of the StarTimes Uganda premier league.

The two were scoring for Vipers SC in the league for the first time this season and their goals moved the three-time champions to the top with 20 points from eight games –leapfrogging BUL to second with 19 points from 9 games.

In one of Vipers SC games in hand, the hosts did not convincingly secure the victory against a side that had not lost on road this season.

BUL, who slipped to only their second defeat this season got their consolation through Deogratius  Ojok –who netted his fourth of the season. Head coach Edward Golola made three changes from the team that started against Express FC before the international break with Siraje Ssentamu, Frank Tumwesigye and Allan Kayiwa starting ahead of Rahmat Senfuka, Karim Watambala and Abraham Ndugwa.

With his height, Tumwesigye dashed to the near post and headed home Bobos Byaruhanga’s corner. It was Vipers sixth corner in the opening six minutes against none.

Eight minutes later, Kayiwa doubled the lead from a free kick after a foul on current league top scorer with six goals Fahad Bayo.

visitors pulled one back through Deogratious Ojok before the break with a flying header off James Otim cross from the right.

Utility player Geoffrey Wasswa replaced Tumwesigye in the 62nd minute to mark his return after a seven-month injury lay off returned after a long time and featured for the first time when he replaced Tumwesigye in the 62nd minute.

The Venoms will return to action on this Saturday against Onduparaka at the Green light Stadium. Meanwhile Robert Sentongo scored his first goal of the season as Kyetume beat bottom side Proline 1-0 at Namboole. KCCA Nigerian striker John Odumegwe opened his goal account as he scored the third in the four minutes of added time as KCCA beat Maroons in Luzira.

Mike Mutyaba opened the scoring in the 422nd minute before Mustafa Kizza in the 90th minute for their fourth and second of the season respectively.
