Kyadondo Rugby Club based outfit Heathens RFC along with their sponsor Platinum Credit Uganda Limited unveiled their away jersey today. The exercise took place on Friday at Fairway Hotel in Kampala.
The new kit (jersey and shorts) which is manufactured by Kyadondo kit partner, Mafro Sports, is predominantly blue with a touch of gold which are traditional colours for Heathens. The kit will be available for sale at a promotional price of 150,000 UGX. The kit will make its debut this Saturday during the Kyadondo derby between Heathens and Buffaloes in the Rugby Championship.
During the press launch, attendees were treated to a recorded digital presentation featuring a surprise appearance by renowned Ugandan rapper Navio, who has recently become a fan of the club. Navio joined players Michael Wokorach, Aaron Ofoyrwoth, Joseph Oyet, Malcolm Okello, Innocent Gwokto, Joachim Chisano, Syrus Watum, and Morgan Odoch in showcasing the stylish new kit.
Until today, Heathens have exclusively sported a single jersey, characterized by its predominant gold hue with a touch of blue, worn for both home and away games. Team captain Michael Wokorach expresses the squad’s eagerness to unveil their new colors and is optimistic about maintaining their good streak against Buffaloes.
“The team has consistently performed well whenever we debut new colors for the first time, and I believe tomorrow will be no exception,” Wokorach said, adding, “This elevates our standards as a team because fans from rival sides have mocked us for having only one jersey. Now, we can feel more comfortable and establish a strong identity as Heathens.”
Kyadondo Rugby Club Chairman, Brian Tabaruka, told the media that he looks forward to witnessing Heathens play in their new colors this Saturday and in the future. He added that this development brings a sense of pride and belonging to the establishment.
“As we eagerly anticipate Heathens’ debut in their vibrant new colors, we’re not just witnessing a jersey change; we’re embracing a new chapter of passion and dedication within our club. This evolution not only ignites excitement among fans but also solidifies our pride and unity as members of the Kyadondo Rugby Club family,” Tabaruka said.
Platinum Credit, the proud sponsors of the Heathens RFC, expressed their excitement and support for the unveiling of the team’s new kit. At the press conference, Greffens Kizito, Head of Collections at Platinum Credit, emphasized the significance of the partnership and the positive impact it has on both the team and the company.
“At Platinum Credit, we are thrilled to be part of this momentous occasion as Heathens reveal their new kit,” said Kizito. “This partnership exemplifies our commitment to supporting sports development in Uganda and reflects our shared values of excellence, teamwork, and dedication. We look forward to continuing our support for the Heathens as they proudly wear our logo on their new kit and inspire fans both on and off the field,” Kizito noted adding that this will inspire the team to excel on the pitch.
Asha Kalanzi, Chairperson of the Heathens, extended gratitude to Platinum Credit for their steadfast sponsorship of the team, which facilitated the acquisition of an away jersey. “We are deeply grateful to Platinum Credit for their unwavering support,” said Kalanzi. “Their sponsorship has been instrumental in providing our team with the resources needed to excel, including the acquisition of our new away jersey.”
Meanwhile, at the same event, a new kit was launched for the Stallions, a feeder team for Kyadondo-based men’s sides, along with attire for all members of Kyadondo’s technical team.
