2021 Rugby Premier League

Saturday Fixtures

*4 p.m – Heathens vs Pirates @Kyadondo
*2 p.m – Warriors vs Hippos @Legends
*4 p.m – KOBs vs Rhinos @Legends
*4 p.m – Impis vs Mongers @Makerere.

After a one-year hiatus, competitive play will finally return to rugby turfs with the resumption of the Rugby Premier League this Saturday, 6th March 2021.

Among other fixtures, title holders Heathens will play host to Black Pirates at Kyadondo Rugby Club. The same venue will also host a lunch time fixture between Buffaloes and Makerere-based Rams.

After the premature cancellation of the league in September last year, Heathens emerged champions of the 2019/20 season off 63 points, five ahead of second placed Kobs though with five games unplayed by all teams.

Heathens now face an uphill task when they play host to pirates who finished third last season off 48 points from 10 wins and three losses.

Heathens fullback Joseph Oyet is confident that his side will put up a good shift against their perennial rivals.

“For the last few weeks we have been doing endurance training and this has helped most of the players to get their fitness levels up there. Going into this game we all know what we want and that’s winning the game. It’s one game  at a time and a win in our first game will give us an upper hand in defending the championship,” Oyet said ahead of kick-off.

Last time out, Heathens beat Pirates 03-08 at Kings Park, Bweyogerere and Oyet believes that a triumph at home this Saturday is a huge plus for their title defence attempt since this season’s league will be played in only one round.

“The game will help us set the pace for the entire season and how we approach it will determine whether we can be among the title contenders,” Oyet added.

Oyet finished last season as joint top converter with 14 conversions in the league, alongside team mate and flyhalf Aaron Oforywoth.
Oyet promises to continue good work with his kicking game as Heathens seek to win a third straight league title.

In the off season, most teams rejuvenated their sides after active engagements in the transfers and it promises to be an exciting one round campaign.
