The Airtel Rising Stars (ARS) Girls defending champions Kitara region started on a losing note in their title defense pursuit as the 2019 national finals got under on Wednesday till Saturday in Kampala.

Kitara, who beat Western region 4-2 in penalties in last year’s after a barren normal time draw, fell to Esther Adokole goal to lose 1-0 at Eastern region in the opener at AGOA/NEC grounds in Bugolobi.

In the same way, last year’s Girls losing finalists Western region started with a scoreless draw against Kampala region in Group A. Buganda opened with a 1-0 win at West Nile courtesy of Halima Kampi goal while Northern played to a 1-1 draw against North East.

Cecilia Apiding scored for North East before Arach Phiona found the equalizer for Northern region. After change of venue twice, the boys are playing their group stage, quarter finals and semi finals at UITC grounds on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday respectively while the girls are playing from AGOA/NEC grounds in Bugolobi with the final expected at MUBS, Nakawa on Saturday.

All the eight FUFA regions are represented by the best select squads from the respective regional championships concluded last weekend.

The winner of this 8th edition of this U17 tournament goes home with Shs7m while the runners up have Shs5m at stake. There are also exciting prizes for the individual best performers courtesy of the exclusive sponsors Airtel-Uganda.
