Uganda Premier League side KCCA FC has welcomed back one of its own, Herbert Achayi, with the experienced defender rejoining the Lugogo-based side on a two-year contract.
His return marks a full-circle moment after a year away with Express FC, following the expiry of his initial KCCA FC contract.
Achayi, who rose through the ranks of the KCCA FC Soccer Academy, made his senior debut in 2017 and went on to become a regular fixture in the club’s backline over a seven-year period. After departing at the end of the 2023/24 season, he spent the 2024/25 campaign at Express FC, where he made 22 league appearances and logged 1,980 minutes of action — an average of 90 minutes per game.
Now back in familiar territory, Achayi is expected to bring leadership, tactical awareness, and stability to the Kasasiro Boys’ defense. His versatility — being able to operate across the backline — gives the technical bench additional options heading into a competitive season.
“I’m thrilled to be back,” Achayi told the club’s website after signing his contract. “KCCA FC is home, and I feel privileged to wear this jersey again. I’m committed to giving everything for the badge and making sure we achieve our goals.”
His return makes him the third signing for KCCA FC in the ongoing transfer window, joining forward Ivan Ahimbisibwe and midfielder Lazaro Muhindo as new additions. Achayi’s presence is not just a boost for KCCA FC — it’s also timely for the Uganda Cranes, who have him in camp ahead of the CHAN 2024 tournament set for August 2025.
