Co-hosts Canada and the United States will make their long-awaited FIFA World Cup 2026 debuts on Friday, June 12, as Matchday Two of the tournament takes centre stage across North America.
The occasion comes almost exactly eight years after Canada, Mexico and the United States were awarded hosting rights for the expanded global showpiece, with both Canada and the USA eager to make strong starts in front of their home supporters.
Canada will kick off their Group B campaign against Bosnia and Herzegovina at Toronto Stadium in what will be the nation’s first-ever FIFA World Cup match as tournament hosts. The clash presents a stern test for the Canadians against a Bosnian side that booked its place at the finals after eliminating Italy in the European play-offs.
The match is expected to attract significant attention as Canada seeks to capitalize on home advantage and make a positive statement in a competitive group.
Later in the day, attention will shift to Los Angeles Stadium, where the United States opens its Group D campaign against Paraguay.
Led by head coach Mauricio Pochettino, the Americans enter the tournament with high expectations as one of the host nations. However, they face a formidable Paraguayan side that impressed during the South American qualifying campaign, securing notable victories over continental giants Argentina and Brazil.
The encounter will also mark the first World Cup meeting between the United States and Paraguay in 96 years.
