Ivory Coast Golf Open: Bagalana ties for 16th in third round

Ugandan professional (pro) golfer Abbey Bagalana shot 3-under par (69 gross) in the third round of the Cote d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast) Golf Open on Friday, 23rd April 2021 at the par-72 President’s Club in Yamoussoukro.

After three rounds, Bagalana’s overall score is 2-under par 214 (74, 71, 69) and he maintains his spot as the best East African player in the tournament so far. He’s also the only Ugandan in the tournament.

Ahead of the final round today, Bagalana is tied for 16th with two other players, that is; Issa Nlareb (69, 71, 74) from Cameroon and Ghanaian Barnni Kojo (72, 71, 71). 30 players made the cut.

However, Nigerian Vincent Torgah who was second on day and first on day two is still leader after three rounds with 16-under par 200 (67, 67, 66).

Ghanaian Emos Korblah is second with 12-under par 204 (68, 68, 68). He is tied with Zimbabwe’s Robson Chinhoi (68, 71, 75).

Sydney Wemba from Zimbabwe is fourth off 11-under par 205 (68, 70, 67) while Nigeria’s Andrew Odoh is fifth with 9-under 207 (69, 67, 71).

Day one leader, Willy Gift (Nigeria) is tied for 6th with country mate Christopher Francis off 8-under par 208. From round one to three, they shot 64, 72, 72 and 70, 69, 69 respectively.

Lady Captain’s Prize Golf Tournament Returns

The Ivory Coast Open or Open de Côte d’Ivoire is a golf tournament in the Ivory Coast. It was founded in 1980, and was an event on the Safari Circuit the following year. It was an event on the European-based Challenge Tour schedule in 1990 and 1991, and from 1996 to 1999. It has been held at President Golf Club, Yamoussoukro and Ivoire Golf Club, Abidjan.

The title has been won by some of the best golfers in the world, including Vijay Singh, Ian Poulter and Gary Player. The most successful player is Englishman Gordon J. Brand, who recorded three wins between 1981 and 1988.

This tournament’s pro kitty is 38,000 Euros.
