JKL, KIU Rangers Win on Playoffs opening night

KIU Rangers and Warriors pulled off winning start to this season’s Tusker Lite National Basketball League (NBL) playoffs on Saturday at Lugogo Arena. KIU Rangers rallied to a one point win (52-53) against A1 Challenge while Warriors beat KIU Titans 47-39 in tedious contests.

Pre-favorites Nkumba endured false shooting in the first two quarters of the game that saw KIU’s Ines Kanyamunza managing 20 points to claim the UAP player of the match Shs100,000 cash prize.

Rachael Akinyi had 14 points while Ninette Uwineza managed 11 points.

A betway Power fan enjoys the moment

Nkumba’s Brenda Ekone managed a game high 24 points while Fina Busingye managed 12 points as Catherine Hurari returned 10.

In men, Warriors and KIU Titans could not manage triple figures combined in their boring tie. Warriors’ Amisi Saidi managed 14 points and was named man of the match.

Gatwech Kutai managed 12. KIU’s Bwanga Michael managed 11 points and 7 rebounds. The four teams will return to action in Lugogo this Monday evening for game two.

In the other games, Betway Power outclassed JKL Dolphins off 35-74 triumph at the YMCA court.

UCU Lady Canons kept their cool to claim a six-point (57-51) triumph against A1 Challenge. Women defending champions JKL Lady Dolphins had an easy ride against UMU Ravens winning 72-47.
