Singleton Match play Golf Challenge defending champions Peace Kabasweka and Sheila Kesiime have proved to be the typical ‘iron ladies’ as they continue to shine even in the third edition of the tournament.

During the second round of this year’s tournament held over the weekend at the par-71 Entebbe Golf Club, Kabasweka/Kesiime put up a commanding show against the male pair of Barnabas Bakamuntumaho and Robert Sabiiti to win won by 5-up with four holes to spare.

For the next (third) round, Kabasweka/Kesiime faces another male opponent in the shape of Charles Odere and Samuel Kato.  The third round will be graced by sixteen pairs of golfers –with the event scheduled for April 13 still at Entebbe Golf Club.

In the previous round, Odere/Kato triumphed against the male pair of Joel Kakira and John Byabagambi (Minister for Karamoja Affairs).

All the four pairs of ladies teams also made it to the next round to make it a befitting outing for the women as they celebrated the women’s week.

Caroline Namutebi paired with Collins Odere to beat Jaime Byarunhanga and Mark Nsubuga 1-up.

Uganda Golf Club star Gloria Mbaguta and Evelyn Asiimwe outwitted Paul Katuramu and Serwano Walusimbi 2-up.

Wendy Angudeyo and Doreen Mwesigye posed a slim 1-up win against the male pair of Tony Kisadha and Richard Mwami Season One winning pair of Isaac Mariera and John Muchiri progressed to the next round with a 4-up win against Phillip Kajerero Sebbaale and Edgar Muzahura with two holes to spare.

The grand prize for the winning pair this year is a fully paid golfing trip to watch the OMEGA Dubai Desert Classic, a series which has featured some of golf’s best players, including Tiger Woods and Henrik Stenson.

There will also be business class return air tickets for the first and second runner-up pairs, as well as winners of the subsidiary events in the men’s and ladies’ categories.

Other prizes include monthly subscription packages on DStv, treats at Serena Hotel, golf accessories and HTC goodies.
