Kampala Hockey Club (KHC) departed this morning for Harare, Zimbabwe, where it will represent Uganda at the Africa Cup for Club Champions, scheduled to take place from 24 to 31 January 2026.
The club travels with a 30-member contingent led by Treasurer Sarah Ahabwe Arinaitwe, who is serving as Chef de Mission, and accompanied by Uganda Hockey Association (UHA) President Philip Wafula Mulindo as the Association representative. The delegation comprises 18 players, nine technical staff, two tournament officials, and one association representative, ensuring comprehensive technical and administrative support for the team.
Prior to departure, the team was officially flagged off by the National Council of Sports (NCS) in Kampala. The ceremony was led by Milton Chebet, Assistant General Secretary (Technical), alongside Ann Sarah Nankya, Senior Sports Officer at NCS, who both urged the team to uphold discipline, professionalism, and national pride as Uganda’s ambassadors on the continental stage.
Kampala Hockey Club will open its campaign on 24 January 2026 against School of Environmental Health Hockey Club of Namibia, before facing United States International University (Kenya) on 25 January. The preliminary round concludes with high-profile encounters against Egyptian powerhouses Sharkia on 28 January and Port Fouad on 29 January.
Speaking ahead of departure, Chef de Mission Sarah Arinaitwe said the team was travelling with determination and unity of purpose, thanking the National Council of Sports for its substantial financial support. UHA President Philip Wafula praised the club for qualifying for the Africa Cup for Club Champions for a third consecutive time, challenging the squad to improve on its bronze-medal finish at the 2023 edition.
Ann Sarah Nankya commended the club’s discipline and tasked the delegation with safeguarding Uganda’s image through exemplary conduct, while Milton Chebet emphasized sportsmanship, dedication, and fair play, urging the team to return with a medal and continue contributing to Uganda’s growing continental presence in hockey.
