The Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Super League resumes this weekend after a month-long break, with six matches lined up across Saturday and Sunday. With teams gearing up for the second round, the battle for the title and the fight for survival are expected to intensify.
The first round ended in dramatic fashion, with defending champions Kawempe Muslim Ladies surrendering their top spot to Kampala Queens in the final match before the break. Both teams remain the strongest contenders for the championship, while teams at the bottom scramble to avoid relegation.
On Saturday, February 1, three crucial fixtures will take place. Rines SS WFC will host FC Tooro Queens at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium, while Wakiso Hill FC faces Amus College WFC at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende. Tooro Queens and Wakiso Hill are in dire need of points, sitting bottom of the table with just five points each from 11 games. Meanwhile, Amus College, currently third with 21 points, is chasing the top two.
The final Saturday fixture will see Makerere University WFC take on Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC. Despite a strong start to the season, Kawempe lost momentum towards the end of the first round, suffering a heavy 4-1 defeat to Kampala Queens. Sitting second with 24 points, they will be eager to reclaim their dominance. Makerere, placed 7th with 13 points, will be determined to cause an upset.
On Sunday, February 2, the action continues with three more fixtures. She Corporate FC will host Lady Doves FC at their new home in Kyabazinga Stadium, Bugembe. She Corporate, former league champions, are struggling in 8th place with 11 points, just ahead of Uganda Martyrs Lubaga (9th) and Olila HS (10th). Lady Doves, however, remain a dangerous side and will look to continue their good form.
Elsewhere, She Maroons FC will battle Olila HS WFC, while Uganda Martyrs Lubaga welcomes table leaders Kampala Queens FC to St. Gerald Stadium. Kampala Queens, who are yet to taste defeat this season, lead the standings with 25 points from seven wins and four draws. They will be looking to avenge their first-round draw against Uganda Martyrs, who have struggled in the lower half of the table.
The golden boot race remains another talking point. Resty Kobusobozi (Lady Doves) leads the scorers’ chart with 9 goals, while last season’s top scorer Agnes Nabukenya follows with 6 goals. Arach Phiona (Rines SS) and Apisa Shalyne (Amus College) are close behind with 5 goals each.
