The Kabaka coronation circuit is next on the agenda of the 2019 national rugby 7s and will be hosted by Shell Rimula Rhinos this Saturday, July 20 at the Legends rugby grounds, Lugogo.

Twelve male and four female teams are expected to take part in this fifth outing of this year’s Roke Telkom national 7s sponsored by Vivo energy Uganda through Shell Rimula Oils.

Despite winning three of the four circuits so far in the 2019 national rugby 7s, Betway Kobs captain Joseph Aredo does not want to count his side as favorites for this year’s title.

“Our target is to become overall winners at the end of all circuits and you can only achieve that by aiming for victory at every outing. The boys are looking forward to the coronation circuit and I guess we shall put up better performance,” noted Aredo after the captains’ photo shoot on Wednesday at Bulange, Mengo.

The photo shoot included the men team captains, Katikiro of Buganda Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga, kingdom minister in charge of sports and youths Owek. Henry Sekabembe Kiberu, kingdom prince David Wasajja and Uganda rugby Union (URU) officials.

“Everyone plays to the best looking up to the 7s national team call up. We are hungrier this year and more organized taking each game like a final as well as treating every opponent equally,” added Aredo, whose side leads the standings with 91 points, 6 above second placed Stanbic Bank Pirates.

The Kabaka (King) of Buganda is celebrating his 26 coronation anniversary and this is the second time a circuit (Kabaka coronation cup) is staged in commemoration.

Pirates won last year’s circuit after 17-05 win over Plascon Mongers in the final at Legends before going on to win the series.
