KCCA FC retire Omondi’s number 15 jersey for 2021/22 season

Uganda Premier League side Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) FC have retired the number 15 jersey of deceased club legend Philip Omondi for the 2021/22 season.

This development was confirmed on Thursday as the club revealed the squad numbers for the 2021/22 season which is set to kickoff in a few weeks time.

“The iconic shirt 15 that was formerly donned by Philip Omondi (RIP) has been retired for the 2021/22 season in honor of the greatest player to ever play for KCCA FC,” the club said via its website.

Ashraf Mugume has been wearing the number 15 jersey and he now switches to number 17.

Omondi played for KCCA FC, then known as Kampala City Council FC from 1973 to 1979, when he moved to the United Arab Emirates to join Sharjah. Omondi played for the Uganda national football team at the 1974, 1976 and 1978 African Cup of Nations, where he was the leading goal-scorer as Uganda finished second.

Goal Keeper Ali Mwirusi maintains shirt 1.

New signings Innocent Esimu Wafula and Rogers Mato will done shirt 2 and 3 respectively.

Former captain of the soccer academy Musa Ramathan maintains shirt 4.

Long injury returnee, John Revita will don shirt 5 while Stefano Loro Mazengo maintains shirt 6 once donned by club legend Tom Lwanga.

Gift Ali Abubakar will wear shirt 7 while academy graduate Dominic Ayella has maintained shirt 8 that was once donned by club legend Jackson Mayanja.

Brian Aheebwa maintains shirt 9 while new signing Yassar Mugerwa takes over shirt number 10.

Kigozi Samson Andrew maintains shirt 11 while youngster Andrew Kawooya will don shirt 12 formerly donned by club legend, Godfrey Kateregga.

Peter Magambo maintains shirt 13 that was once donned by current KCCA FC Manager Morley Byekwaso while Sadat Happy Anaku maintains shirt 14 that was formerly donned by one of the club’s greats Moses Nsereko (RIP)

Achai Herbert maintains shirt 16 while Ashraf Mugume switches from shirt 15 to17.

Charles Lwanga maintains shirt 18 while new signing Brian Majwega will don his favorite shirt 19. The player donned the same shirt number during his previous stint at the club.

New recruit Davis Kasirye will don shirt 20 while Sam Ssenyonjo maintains shirt 21.

Julius Poloto and Kizza Joseph Bukenya have maintained shirts 22 and 23.

New signing Geofrey Wasswa has been handed shirt 24 previously donned by Charles Lukwago the former club captain.

Denis Iguma maintains shirt 25 while new acquisition Emmanuel Alex Wasswa has been handed shirt 26.

New recruits Usama Arafati, Brian Kayanja and Derrick Ochan will don shirts 27, 28 and 29 respectively.

The recently promoted players Juma Ibrahim and Mwanje Elvis Eddy will done shirts 30 and 31.

Jurua Hassan has maintained shirt 32 while goal keeper Benjamin Ochan has been handed shirt 99.

In total, 32 shirt numbers have been handed out to KCCA FC players ahead of the 2021/22 season.
