Uganda Cup Round of 16 – First Leg

The Uganda Cup continued on Sunday with four games played on the day.
At Luzira, KCCA FC beat Maroons FC 2-0 in a game that saw Charles Lukwago save a 90th minute to ensure the Kasasiro Boys kept a vital clean sheet on the road.
Herbert Achai handed the visitors the lead with just 14 minutes played as he headed in Hassan Jurua’s corner kick.
The second came on 67 minutes with Jurua getting his name onto the score sheet, scoring a penalty after Isma Kawawulo handled in the area.
With a minute to play, Pius Obuya missed from the spot with Lukwago pulling off a save following Musa Ramathan’s hand-ball.
The double header at Lugogo kicked off with Proline FC holding on to defeat Mbale Heroes FC 2-1.
After an indifferent start, Proline took the lead on 39 minutes through Nordin Bunjo who dispatched a penalty after Geoffrey Lumbangakene handled in the area.
At the stroke of halftime, Savio Kabugo doubled the hosts lead as he headed in from Gerald Kirya’s corner kick.
With 12 minutes left on the clock, Karenzi Bouchera headed in what may prove to be a vital away goal for Mbale Heroes to ensure the game ends 2-1.
In the second day’s game at Lugogo, Police FC humbled Bright Stars FC 4-1.
Inside the opening two minutes, Ben Ocen poked into an empty net to open the scoring and put Police 1-0 up.
However Bright Stars found a way back into the game as Joseph Janjali raced through on goal before slotting past Derrick Ochan to net the equalizer on 15 minutes.
Seven minutes later, Police restored their lead through YusufSsozi who collected from Tony Mawejje before bundling in from close range.
On 35 minutes, Ocen brought down Ruben Kimera’s corner before turning and shooting into the back of the net to put the Cops 3-1 up, a lead they took into the break.
With 13 minutes to play, substitute Derrick Kakooza scored a fourth for Police as he rifled in from an acute angle, to all but put the tie to bed.
At Wakissha, Wakiso Giants FC put one foot in to the last 8 thanks to a convincing 5-1 victory over Tooro United FC.
Wakiso Giants broke the deadlock in the 11th minute through Frank Ssebuufu to take an early lead.
Eleven minutes later, Ivan Bogere doubled the hosts lead with his first of the day, tapping home from close range.
Five minutes to the end of first half, Rahmat Ssenfuka made it 3-0 to the home side to all but end the game as a contest.
However, Marvin Oshaba pulled one back on 51 minutes to hand the visitors a glimmer of hope.
On the hour mark, Ivan Bogere completed his brace and restored the hosts three-goal lead after hard work by Vianne Ssekajugo.
Tooro were then reduced to 10 men when George Kigonya was shown a red card.
In the 75th minutes, Ssekajugo made it 5-1 to the Purple Sharks, putting the ball into the back of the net after he was set-up by Owen Kasule.
The second legs of all these matches will be played in the starting week.
