The Uganda Premier League’s (UPL) match day 17 culminates with a highly anticipated clash between KCCA FC and table leaders Vipers SC at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo, on Sunday at 7 PM.
The game, which serves as the weekend’s headline fixture, promises high-stakes football as KCCA looks to rebound from a 1-0 loss to NEC FC, while Vipers aim to maintain their commanding lead at the summit.
The Kasasiro Boys, currently fifth on the table with 24 points, face a tough challenge against Vipers, who sit comfortably at the top with 37 points, 13 ahead of their opponents. .
KCCA will be without several key players, including captain Julius Poloto, Usama Arafat, and Peter Magambo. However, the return of right-back Gavin Kizito from suspension provides a much-needed boost.
On the other hand, Vipers are in high spirits after a 2-0 victory over URA FC. Derrick Ndahiro’s return from a two-match suspension strengthens their squad, though they will miss centre-back Rogers Torach due to suspension.
The reverse fixture earlier this season ended in a dramatic 1-1 draw, with Ashraf Mugume scoring a late equalizer for KCCA at Kitende.
Elsewhere, the day’s early kickoffs provide just as much intrigue.
Second-placed NEC FC has a chance to temporarily top the table when they visit Police FC.
NEC is buoyed by a 1-0 victory over KCCA, while Police, 11th on the table with 18 points, hopes to recover from their narrow defeat to Lugazi FC.
The previous meeting between these two ended in a goalless stalemate.
In Lugazi, a relegation battle looms large as 13th-placed Lugazi FC hosts 14th-placed Wakiso Giants. Both teams are desperate for points to move away from the drop zone.
Lugazi comes into the game with momentum after defeating Police 1-0, while Wakiso Giants drew 1-1 with SC Villa midweek.
At Njeru, BUL FC takes on bottom-placed Mbale Heroes. BUL, seventh on the table with 23 points, will be aiming to keep their top-half hopes alive.
Meanwhile, Mbale Heroes are in dire need of points, having only managed nine all season.
