Marvin Kibirige demonstrated exceptional skill as he drove 360 yards on the 18th hole, positioning himself in a prime spot on the fairway. With the pin located at the back of the green, Kibirige seized the opportunity and delivered a level round of 72, taking the lead in the highly competitive Pearl of Africa (POA) Series.
His performance placed him two strokes ahead of David Kamulindwa, who maintained his one-under 71 from the opening day.
Kibirige’s measured approach and accurate putting proved decisive. After carefully assessing the conditions, he landed within two meters of the pin and sank a crucial putt for birdie, solidifying his position at the top.
For Ronald Rugumayo, however, day two proved challenging. A triple-bogey on the 13th was the low point of his round, leaving him five strokes off the pace. Despite the setback, Rugumayo remains in contention, set to tee off in the second group alongside the leading trio of Kibirige, Kamulindwa, and Deo Akope.
As the tournament progresses into day three, only those who made the cut—set at eleven-over—will continue competing for the top spots and prize money.
Notable players like Vincent Byamukama, Hussein Bagalana, and Herman Mutaawe failed to progress, while prominent names such as Philip Kasozi, Abraham Ainamani, and Irene Nakalembe remain in the hunt.
In the amateur category, John Musimenta faces a steep climb after posting a five-over 77. His chances of victory appear slim, with Romy Okot and Ibrahim Ssemikundu comfortably holding the top two spots.
Dr. Edward Nyatia, chairman of the POA Series, expressed his satisfaction with the event’s success. “When we hatched the idea, we didn’t know how it would go, but we are glad that we have reached here and the sky is the limit,” he said, reflecting on the inaugural tournament’s enthusiastic reception.
