Top tier local rugby outfit Kampala Old Boys (KOBs) RFC has partnered with Human Diagnostics Uganda LTD (HUMAN), the distributers of OraQuick HIV Self-Test kits as they kickoff activities to mark 60 years of existence.
HUMAN joins the club as a health partner seeking to help stakeholders facilitate their mission to end HIV/AIDS by 2030 by actively engaging in community enriching programs to diversely spread the message about HIV Self-testing. HUMAN has also contributed UGX 5M for branded player match day polo shirts.
Shamim Naggayi who is the Product Manager at HUMAN says that they are happy to get on board for such an important initiative which benefits both the players and fans.
“This will give us a chance to spread the HIV/AIDS message to the masses because rugby attracts large crowds, so we want to tag along. We will be joining Kobs throughout the matches and we will be giving free testing services to both the fans and players,” Naggayi said.
This exercise will majorly be done during the National Rugby Sevens Series which is set to kick-off in a few weeks. The club will also be having fans and sponsors engagement activities throughout that period and in other subsequent competitions leading up to the grand celebration.
Kobs Chairman, Dr. Tonny Stone Luggya revealed that there are a series of activities to mark the 60-year anniversary, all which will be revolving around strategic partnerships, development partners, the alumni, the current, the fans and the community.
“We plan to hold a two-day medical camp at the first 2023 Rugby 7s Circuit(1-2 July), a KOBs Charity Car Wash and Vets Game (5th August, 2023), KOBs RFC & Golf Dinner at Entebbe Golf Club (26th August, 2023), KOBs Vets Vs KOBs Current (16th September, 2023), the Edward Kitaka International 10s Tournament (29th – 30th September, 2023), Naguru Charity Drive (11th November, 2023) and the KOBs @60 Dinner on 24th November which will culminate the festivities” Luggya said.
“Kobs @60 is a milestone celebration for us…Kobs is a family club so we are trying to get back to the family ethics of the club, we want to get back everyone on board and support the club on and off the pitch,” Luggya added.
Kobs is the oldest and most successful rugby club in Uganda with a club record of 13 National League Championships, 8 Uganda Cup titles, 7 Makerere Tens titles, 8 club sevens titles among other titles.
