Hisae Koshiba and Dennis Kawalya were the overall winners in the ladies and men’s categories respectively in the 2024 Lady Captain’s Prize golf tournament that on Saturday at Uganda Golf Club’s par-72 course in Kitante, Kampala.
Kosiba, with a handicap of 27, achieved an impressive nett score of 69, securing her position as the top female player of the day. Meanwhile, Kawalya, handicap 19, led the men’s category with a nett score of 62, showcasing a strong performance on the course.
In recognition of their achievements, the overall winners were graciously awarded a bundle of prestigious prizes, including Kenya Airways tickets, Wandaz gift packs, and Aquafina caps. These esteemed offerings were generously provided by the tournament’s sponsors, comprising Kenya Airways, Wandaz, and Aquafina.

The Lady Captain’s Prize ushered in the new leadership’s of the UGC Ladies section. Wendy Angudeyo, having been reelected as Lady Captain of UGC just last week officially started a new term at the helm of the UGC Ladies section. Her team comprises of Sarah Nduhukire as Vice Lady Captain, Hon. Patience Nkunda as Secretary, Berna Musanabera as Treasurer, and Flavia Namakula as Competitions Secretary
The Lady Captain’s Prize tournament marked the inauguration of the new leadership within the UGC Ladies section. Wendy Angudeyo, recently reelected as Lady Captain of UGC, officially commenced her new term leading the UGC Ladies section. Assisting her are Sarah Nduhukire as Vice Lady Captain, Hon. Patience Nkunda as Secretary, Berna Musanabera as Treasurer, and Flavia Namakula as Competitions Secretary, forming a dedicated team ready to uphold the values and traditions of the club.
“We had a great tournament,” Angudeyo said on Saturday evening adding that; “almost all clubs in the country were represented here today. We had golfers who first played elsewhere but also managed to get time to grace our event and we are grateful for that.”

Angudeyo highlighted the continuous growth of the UGC Ladies section, noting its success in various areas like participation and various engagements. She mentioned that the section has gained attention from sponsors seeking collaborations, which benefit both parties by providing tangible value and substantial returns on investments.
Angudeyo emerged runner-up of the club championship at the event with Harriet Kitaka emerging winner. Kitaka also topped Ladies Group A off 76 nett whilst Peace Kabasweka emerged runner up off 77. Kabasweka also took the ladies nearest to the pin prize.

Meanwhile, Aidah Khamis beat Mary Zaramba on count back (74 c/b) to top Ladies Group B whilst Shalom Kayenje emerged Ladies Group C winner after beating Maria Ochieng on count back (73 c/b).
In Men’s Group A, Aggrey Mutaka was the winner off 70 nett while Dickson Agaba was runner-up with 71 c/b. Group B was taken by David Batanda with 68 with Patrick Kagoro as runner up off 72. Simon Akanziza was Group C winner with 66 nett while Michael Nimo was second with 67.
Juma Shamim was the ladies senior winner with 75 nett while Tushar Doshi was men’s senior winner off 71 nett. Tarit Kimtai was guest winner with 64 nett, but he also took home the men’s nearest to the pin award.
For the other side bets, John Musimenta claimed the men’s longest drive award while Judith Komugisha took the ladies longest drive gong. The ‘piga mingi’ was ‘won’ by Nirav Hathi off 93 nett.

When proceedings shifted from the course to the 19th hole, Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL) enthusiastically celebrated its role as the official beer partner for the event, showcasing unwavering support through the renowned WhiteCap Crisp brand. As the designated beer partner, WhiteCap Crisp significantly enhanced the event’s ambiance, providing attendees with a refreshing and enjoyable experience.
