LycaMobile aims to boost Cricket Cranes’ image and recognition

Since joining forces with the Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) at the beginning of 2024, LycaMobile is actively working to fulfill its promise to elevate the profile and status of cricket in Uganda.

LycaMobile inked a groundbreaking five-year partnership with UCA to become the official sponsor of the national senior men’s team (Cricket Cranes), the senior women’s team (Victoria Pearls), and some of UCA’s flagship programmes, including national competitions.

This strategic alliance between LycaMobile Uganda and UCA commenced at a pivotal moment for the sport, coinciding with recent triumphs achieved by Uganda’s cricket teams on the continental front.

LycaMobile’s support was crucial when the Victoria Pearls donned new playing kits for the International Cricket Council (ICC) Women’s T20 Global Qualifier in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), in April 2024.

The Cricket Cranes also benefited, receiving not only a brand-new ‘World Cup Souvenir’ playing jersey but also funding for their preparation tour camps for their historic ICC T20 World Cup debut appearance in the USA and West Indies in May and June 2024.

LycaMobile United Kingdom, the parent company, hosted the Cricket Cranes to a sumptuous luncheon at their headquarters at Canary Wharf in London, England, upon their return from the Caribbean. Back home, LycaMobile Uganda gave a heroic reception to the history-makers with an open-top double-decker bus ride from Entebbe International Airport, with a stopover at the LycaMobile Kampala offices.

Led by the company’s visionary Group Chairman, Dr. Allirajah Subaskaran, LycaMobile has held several meetings with state, government, and cricket officials, pledging substantial support for the game’s sustained success and comprehensive development at every level—from grassroots initiatives nurturing young talent to professional leagues showcasing seasoned athletes.

After meeting the First Family and Mama Janet Museveni at State House, Nakasero, alongside Cricket Cranes officials and players midweek, LycaMobile concluded the week in style with a priceless gesture by gifting each of the historic 15 squad members from the World Cup an ultra-modern iPhone 15 Pro Max and a data-friendly Lyca SIM card during a breakfast held at Café Javas, Lugogo. Each phone is estimated to cost UGX 6 million.

Group Chairman Dr. Subaskaran emphasized the importance of this gesture, stating their focus on elevating the profile of the game, rebranding the athletes by providing them with a good lifestyle, and making cricket appealing to the youth. Other priority concerns for LycaMobile include improving the game’s infrastructure in the country and assisting the association with better coaching personnel and playing opportunities for players abroad.
