Former Uganda Ladies Golf Union President Evah Magala emerged winner of the 2023 Uganda Golf Club (UGC) Ladies Open that came to a close on Saturday in Kampala.
Evah Magala, handicap 2 shot an overall 12 over par 228 after three rounds at the club’s par 72 Kitante course to relieve Peace Kabasweka of the title. The latter tied for second with Judith Komugisha off 15 over par 231.
The win is a huge boost for Magala ahead of the ladies event of the Uganda Open that tees off next week at the same venue. Martha Babirye is the defending champion of the Uganda Open but she finished fourth at the UGC Ladies Open off 20 over par 236.
For her victory, Magala was awarded with a trophy, Titleist bag, box of TaylorMade Kalea golf balls plus two nights for two accommodation at Emin Pasha Hotel.
Kabasweka was awarded with trophy, Titleist bag and box of TaylorMade Kalea golf balls while Komugisha received a trophy, Ping duffel bag and box of TaylorMade Kalea golf balls.
With the event just marking five editions, Magala becomes the fourth different player to win the tournament after Irene Nakalembe, Martha Babirye and Peace Kabasweka.
Magala’s win is sure to raise her profile in the local golf scene, and it will be interesting to see how she builds on this success in the coming days. For now, though, she can bask in the glory of a job well done and revel in the knowledge that she has done something truly special.
This year’s UGC Ladies Open has been made possible with support from its partners and sponsors which included Pepsi, NCBA Bank, Emin Pasha Hotel, Fairway Hotel, Gorilla Heights Lodge, Case Medical Services and Kinyara Sugar Works.
