The Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) just hit a major milestone – they’re now officially recognized as a legit entity! Moses Alsayed Lubega, the USPA President, broke the news to the association’s members during their Annual General Meeting on April 13th, 2024 at Copper Chimney Restaurant in Kampala.
“We are now officially registered under number 80034884185506 as the Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA Limited), operating as a guarantee without share capital,” stated Lubega to an enthusiastic assembly. “This new status not only safeguards our partnerships but also secures our name, empowering us to engage in formal negotiations, establish MOUs, contracts, and steer policy and agenda setting.” “Moreover, our legal standing enhances our credibility with partners, corporate entities, agencies, and others,” Lubega emphasized.
USPA has cultivated strong relationships with partners such as Nile Special, Plascon Uganda, City Tyres, and Standard Chartered Bank.
Meanwhile, at the USPA March monthly meeting, Jacob Kiplimo snagged the Nile Special Sports Personality of the Month award! Talk about a boss move – he defended his title at the World Cross Country Championship in Belgrade, Serbia, clocking in at 26:09. With 265 votes, he beat out Charles Kagimu, who pulled 245 votes after bagging gold at the African Games in Accra, Ghana. The Rugby Men 7s team landed third place with 210 votes, crushing it with an unbeaten streak and snatching the men’s 7s gold at the African Games.
But wait, there’s more! Husina Kobugabe and Gladys Mbabazi nailed it with 180 votes, scoring the women’s doubles gold at the African Games. Kobugabe even clinched silver in the women’s singles! And the cherry on top? Kiplimo and past monthly winners are getting honored with plaques and Shs500,000/= thanks to Nile Special.
