From the moment Dayne Jr Moore fired an impressive seven-under 64 in the first round, it was clear he was in control. On Saturday, he managed his lead to claim the 2024 Johnnie Walker Uganda Professional Open, securing a two-stroke victory over Rwanda’s Celestin Nsanzuwera.
Despite only shooting one round under par throughout the tournament, Moore held his nerve. After his opening 64, he returned rounds of two-over and one-over on subsequent days, ultimately finishing three under par for the championship. Moore had to fend off a fierce final-day push from Nsanzuwera, who shot an impressive 68 on Saturday, but a bogey on the par-5 15th halted his momentum.
Moore faced a tense moment when he double-bogeyed the fifth hole, but he quickly recovered with a birdie on the next. His calm and steady play secured his victory. Kenya’s Dismas Indiza, who finished third with a 68 in the final round, continues to defy age, proving that at nearly 56, he remains one of East Africa’s most enduring golfers.
Uganda’s top performer was Philip Kasozi, finishing at three-over after rounds of 71, 73, 71, and 72. Fellow Ugandan Abraham Ainamani ended five-over, while Kenyan amateur Adel Balala shone with the lowest score on the final day, a 67, tying for third place with Indiza.
While Kasozi tied for sixth, and Ainamani for ninth, Uganda’s Ronald Rugumayo struggled with a disastrous 9 on the 18th hole, finishing the day with a score of 80 and dropping to 23rd overall.
