Former Uganda Cranes right winger Obadia Semakula is happy to be part of the new Motherwell sports academy, Mutungo which will enable him to pass on skills to the upcoming talents. Motherwell sports academy which is under the management of Motherwell Junior academy in Mutungo, was officially launched on Sunday by His Excellence, the Ugandan Ambassador to Canada, Joy Ruth Acheng.
She promised to connect the academy to Canada sports institutions and clubs as well helping it acquire funders. “Let us let our children develop their talents. Many Ugandans are trafficked to foreign countries for employment yet sports men are even invited to those countries and return home with good money,” she noted.
Academy director, who is also the Uganda woodball federation president, Paul Mark Kayongo said that the legendary Semakula will be working closely with the academy manager Paul Serulyo to bring up talents especially in football.
“We have a big dream of becoming the biggest sports academy in the country. We have gone through proper channels and we are licensed by FUFA as an academy. We have these kids on weekend for two days and we hope to have the future stars made from here,” he said.
The academy that is already in operation will at the beginning focus on football, netball, woodball, basketball and volleyball.
